At the Study at Yale, a boutique hotel in New Haven, we have re-invented hotel dining with a focus on simplicity, the freshest local ingredients and great taste!

The restaurant, Heirloom, offers contemporary continental cuisine in an energetic, approachable atmosphere.

Executive Chef John Nordin, who worked and learned under the direction of Todd English, created innovative dishes that appeal to and thrill any foodie. The restaurant’s menu features traditional New England fair renewed with the taste of NYC’s hip restaurant scene. However, the menu will also include Signature dishes, such as “New Haven Spaghetti with veal meatballs.”

If you prefer to dine in your room, our “Food for Thought” room service menu is available from the restaurant 6am to midnight. The “Food for Thought” menu will feature classic takeout items with a sophisticated twist: such as lobster fried rice, baguette with jamón, cheese, and wine, and grilled cheese with tomato soup.

Additionally, our Concierge is happy to make recommendations for dining in and around the New Haven, Connecticut area should you wish to venture outside of the hotel.

Last Weekend I stayed at the new hotel in downtown New Haven. It is my new favorite hotel. It has comfy furniture, a great book selection, and a wonderful staff. The best part about this hotel is definitely Heirloom- The service is amazing and the food is excellent and it is pretty inexpensive as well. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an upscale yet casual location to dine. This is by far the number one place to visit whenever you

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely meal at Heirloom last night. Basically, if we could give the restaurant 3.5 stars, we would. The food was quite good, say 4 stars, the atmosphere, however, 3.

He chose the salad and the chicken from the prix fixe menu, and I chose the beets and the gnocchi. Both our starters and entrees were very good. The salad was not over-dressed and the cheese and pine nuts added just enough. The beets were very tasty and the added walnuts and cheese made a lovely combination. The chicken was moist and flavorful and the gnocchi was done perfectly and was delicious. Dessert was okay. The apples were sliced so thin that they were barely detectable. The tart crust was a circle of puff-pastry and was fine. The ice cream was very good, a nice vanilla taste.

Our one real complaint was that at 8:15 pm the music was turned on in the bar and restaurant. The music was too loud and added absolutely nothing to the atmosphere. It only caused everyone to talk to their dinner partners more loudly. It was not quite unbearable, but I would definitely say that the music was unecessary. Before the music came on, we remarked that the dining room was open and perhaps needed something to soften the noise of the other guests--it was quite busy. The quality of the food was not enhanced at all by the atmosphere.

We enjoyed the meal, and definitely enjoyed the opportunity to try a new place.
