While caroling is nothing new during the holiday season, adding boomboxes certainly puts a new spin on a timeless holiday tradition! On December 13th, participants will gather at the Shubert Theater and continue through town caroling while toting boomboxes playing a piece of music composed at the event. Unsilent Night, as it is called, is one of many fun holiday events in New Haven including theater and musical offerings, tree lightings, choral performances and the Luminaria. Unsilent Night marks the newest of New Haven’s events, sponsored by the International Festival of Arts and Ideas. The boombox symphony, created by New York artist Phil Klein, has been performed around the world and moves to New Haven this year in what the city hopes to become a “New Haven holiday cult classic.”
Unsilent Night is part of the holiday "mini-Festival" which also includes Festival Restaurant Tours. In addition to “Unsilent Night” devotees of the Festival’s popular food tours can indulge in Vino, Saffron y Sofrito: Flavors of Spain and Latin America on Saturday, December 8 at 1:30pm or 9th Square Noshes: Experimental, Eccentric, Distinctive Food and Drink of 9th Square on Wednesday, December 12 at 5:30pm.
